1.SrEE Padmanabhaswamy Temple
Sreem admanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum is the richest Hindu temple in the recorded history of the world.The Main God Vishnu is encraved in “Anantha Shayanam” posture, ‘the eternal yogic sleep’ on the serpent named ”Adisheshan”.
‘Ananthasayanam Idol’ is the main feature of this Temple. ‘Ottakkal Mandapam, Abhisravana Mandapam, Kulasekhara Mandapam, Seven storeyed Gopuram, The Sreebalippura (Corridor), Mural Paintings and Padmatheertham are the other main features of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
The main entrance of the Temple is located in East fort, Trivandrum city.
Only Hindus are allowed inside the Temple.
2.Kuthiramalika(Puthenmalika), Palace Museum
The Palace Museum is built by Maharaja Swathi thirunal Varma situated near Padmanabhaswamy temple in Trivandrum. Kuthiramalika got its name by the wooden carving of 122 horses supporting the roof. Though the Palace got over 80 rooms only 20 rooms are open for visitors.
3.The Government Art/Napier Museum
Napier Museum in Trivandrum is built by an English Architect in the Year 1855. It is named after Lord Napier, the former Governor of Madras.
‘ Sri Chitra Art Gallery’ in the Museum contains works from Raja Ravi Varma and Nicholas Roerich and a limpse of Mughal and Tanjore art.
4.Zoological Garden
The Napier Museum is attached to a Zoological garden in the same ground, which is one of the oldest Zoo in India.
The Zoo is the house of Royal Tigers, Panthers, Cheetahs, Deer, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras,Hippos, boar,Snakes and other wild animals.
It also contains a wide range of Birds, Reptiles including Crocodiles, Poisonous and Non-Poisonous Snakes.
5.Beaches
The Thiruvananthapuram district also has various beaches throughout the west coastline. The famous beaches includes Shankumugam Beach, Chowara Beach, Kovalam Beach, Varkala Beach, Vizhinjam Beach, Valiyathura Beach, Puthenthope Beach, Hawa Beach etc. These areas also contain various Beach Resorts, Ayurvedic treatment centers and Spas.Places to visit in trivandrum
